Fines from the Ashes

The young and passionate leader behind a billion-peso company with a beautiful new house and a young, happy family, Hosfelito Fines or ‘Jhopet’ for short appears to be living the dream. The Batangas native is the president and chief marketing officer of a Filipino startup that helps companies achieve their sales targets through effective social media campaigns. He is also the chief executive officer of an academic institution for kids.

Married to the love of his life for seven years, the thirty-year-old businessman and digital marketer is the father of three adorable little children. With a stellar professional career and a loving personal life, Jhopet seems to have it all. Little do most people know that the road to Jhopet’s current success was not an uphill climb, but a rambunctious rollercoaster ride.

Born and raised in Nasugbu, Batangas, Jhopet is no foreigner to hard work. At the tender age of 13, he worked in rice fields for a humble PHP50 daily wage, then became a cement truck helper for PHP200 a day. He was once a part of the restaurant crew of a leading fast-food chain, and he even ventured into selling burgers, porridge and even perfume in his local town carnival.

After two years of taking up Business Management in Batangas State University, Jhopet dropped off school to pursue his passion as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and also to begin his entrepreneurial journey. He was awarded the Startup Entrepreneur of the Year by the Philippine Academy for Creating Enterprises in 2015. In the same year, he was chosen as one of the Top 20 Young Entrepreneurs by Go Negosyo and the American Embassy. He was also a delegate in the prestigious Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

In 2017, Jhopet was hailed as the “Nxt Generation in Franchising” by the Philippine Franchise Association. The following year, he represented the country in the NxtGen Global Competition in Arizona, U.S.A.

Jhopet also recognized that he reached this pinnacle of success through the help of Junior Chamber International (JCI), a global nonprofit organization of young active citizens who are engaged and committed to creating positive impact in their communities. Jhopet is the 2021 Vice President for membership and recruitment of the JCI Makati Chapter. In spite of his busy schedule, he has been very active in organizing and participating in various charitable projects that solves local challenges through the organization.
